I am a second year DPhil student in the Departments of Education at Oxford University under supervision of Professor Herb Marsh. My substantive interests are frame of references in academic self-concept. Two models that I am looking into for my doctoral thesis are the Big-Fish-Little-Pond effect (BFLPE) and Internal/External frame of reference model.
Besides of my substantive interests in educational psychology, especially motivational research, I also aim to apply sophisticated statistical methods to substantive research questions. At the moment, I am using recently developed latent covariate approach to contextual analysis in the BFLPE study. The traditional way of creating contextual variables is through direct aggregation of individual values to the group average, whereas the latent approach decomposes the variance of covariate into within and between level parts, and models the between part variance at the between level. Such approach is superior compared to the traditional approach in that it controls for the sampling errors. The latent method can also be used simultaneously with multiple indicators to account for measurement errors at level 2 (multilevel SEM), which is a even more reliable approach.
I am also applying mutliple impuation (MI) of missing data into my thesis.
